It took Moses forty years of preparation in the wilderness for him to grow from a self-dependent liberator to a man who would turn to the glory of God. This once proud son of Pharaoh, now a humble shepherd, is willing to turn aside, listen and look. How often in the Bible are we exhorted to listen, incline our hearts and open our ears?

When God saw Moses respond, God spoke: “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5)

“Take off your shoes,” is a sign of reverence toward God. It’s an act of worship and a denial of self-sufficiency. It’s as if Moses heard the Lord say, “You don’t need your sandals. You do need my fire.”

Later, “Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. (Exodus 24:15). It was there, in the consuming fire of God’s glory, that Moses received detailed blueprints for the construction of the ark of the covenant and the tabernacle. In the presence of God’s glory, Moses received revelation.

God has prepared good works for each of us but to do them, we must be crafted by God and continue to humbly obey Him as He orders our steps.

  • Ask everyone to take off their shoes, socks, or whatever is on their feet, even if it’s only done symbolically as they begin to think about what they need to surrender to God.
  • Ask three people to hold each of the flags representing fire. Each person will step under the flags to be refined of whatever needs to be surrendered.
  • Ask 4 people to take two white billows, stretching them to the side, creating a passage way. Once each person has been fully surrendered under the fire, they will walk, sit, pray, lay down in the passageway as they are consecrated and humbly receiving their mission; much like Moses received in the cloud on the mountains.
  • Have 6 people grab the 3 light blue billows and begin billowing overhead. I would like each person, as they are passing under the billows, to visualize themselves as transformed instruments of God doing whatever it is that He’s asked them to do to glorify Him and help build His kingdom. Feel free to even act out what Holy Spirit has placed on your heart during this activation.
